Unconventional Collective / French Fries issue 07 Spring/Summer 2024
For some time now we have been increasingly immersed in a whirlwind of continuous innovation, with the incessant appearance of new collections and technologies, leaving little room for reflection and understanding of the world around us. However, the intrinsic value of “savoir faire” remains anchored in our ability to create something extraordinary from what already exists.
If artists take an original object and bring it into newness of existence, making a wholly distinctive creation that preserves echoes of its origins, then remixing an archive, the clothes, the forms of fashion means navigating the meanders of the creative process.
We find ourselves desiring what others desire, and the obsession from the constant search for ephemeral and superfluous trends is intertwined with environmental issues and a necessary eco-sustainability, now more than ever. Inevitably, the question arises: what can we do with what we already have?
Through MIAORAN Artisanal Studio - a sustainable contemporary fashion brand, half Italian and half Chinese - the possibility of reimagining and re-signifying its archive becomes the very essence of what we wear, whose singularity lies in the interpretative potential of a playful and sophisticated decade-long history.
