Raised in Apulia, Antonio Miucci (1994) is an Italian photographer and art director based in Milan.
Fascinated by the visual artistic realm and by the manufacturing of fashion images, he began taking photographs in his teen years. He moved to Milan in 2013 to study at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he obtained a BA in Multimedia Arts and a MA in Photography. During this time, he developed his own artistic vision through an in-depth study of Aesthetics, contemporary and fine arts, photography and cinema, pop culture and fashion, gender/queer and cultural studies – sharping his way to understand ethics and aesthetics as well within photography practice and representation.
After graduating, he started following several Italian fashion photographers as an assistant while continuing to carry on personal art projects and fashion stories for various magazines, influencing the languages reciprocally. Subsequently, he decided to expand his career in image-making and embarked on a new journey as junior art director in creative agencies.
He currently works as freelance photographer, as well as developing personal mixed-media projects through a constant process of research and learning.
His research investigates the themes of identity, queerness, iconography, beauty and self-expression, blending the languages of fashion, portraiture and fine art. The study of color and classic beauty plays a central role: bright and contrasting, imbued with the warm pastel tones of his native Southern Italy hometown — landscapes bathed in light, sea and sky — it transforms into an expressive and narrative instrument. His personal approach to photography, versatile and ever-changing, it moves through layered imageries suspended in dreamlike atmospheres, where contemporary pop sensibility meets timeless and sophisticated vision of beauty.
In his photographs, the sentiment of light and shadow act together with the subjects that are active participants, becoming the medium between presence and representation. Thus, delicacy and intimacy is related to the artefact, beauty is intertwined with kindness, the sacred is mirrored in the monstrous, bravery embraces vulnerability. Each portrait is a colourful act of transformation, a thoughtful gesture of self-affirmation and existence, an hymn to the light within the darkness and viceversa.
His works have been exhibited in Italy and abroad for several prizes, presentations and group shows (Unfair Milano, Haute Photographie Rotterdam 2022, Gender Project Berlin 2022, Paris Photo 2021, Prix Picto de La Mode 2020, Palm Photo Prize 2020, Walkinstudio, Insight FotoFestival, Ragusa FotoFestival, Artissima & GQ Italia, Cardi Gallery, Voies Off Arles, Paratissima Art Fair, Triennale Design Museum, Fondazione Meravigli) and published in several platforms and magazines (Artribune, Mulieris, Der Greif, Fresh Eyes, Gup Magazine, Palm* Studios, GQ Italia, CAP74024, The Collector, Kaltblut, Rolling Stone, Vogue.it, L'Uomo Vogue, NSS Magazine, Perimetro, Still Fotografia, Uncoated Platform, Pellicola Magazine, Interni Magazine).
