Raised in Southern Italy, Antonio Miucci (1994) is an Italian visual artist and fashion photographer based in Milan. His artistic research, influenced by art, fashion, gender studies, humanities and pop culture, deals with the themes of Queerness, gender and personal Identity, with a focus on masculinity and its redefinition in contemporary age, in which he subverts the representation of cultural stereotypes to celebrate self-expression, bravery, vulnerability and beauty.
In his works, Miucci uses fashion as a medium to create imaginaries deeply inspired by the concept of infinite rebirth and metamorphosis, and by the archetypes of the Feminine and the Masculine, identified by a sense of delicacy, kindness, elegance and mystery fulfilled with an attention about lights and shadows, colours and composition. The subjects portrayed celebrate who they want or choose to be with no prejudice and boundless freedom. In front of the camera, a timeless and spaceless aesthetic dimension is born, where the characters give life to their Inner-Self in its most varied and fluid forms of expression, revealed through a profound and personal exchange between the realities of the artist and the subject.
Through the use of photography, in the studio and on location, Miucci tells the Inner-Self with a staging that triggers multiple performative and transformative actions, in which identity overlaps and interchanges between the Ego and the Self. Therefore, it takes place the artist's inner-reinvention and at the same time the reinvention of the subjects who finds themselves in front of the photographic medium. In this way, processes are implemented in which one's own appearance and the appearance of the Other changes continuously, portraying an Alter-Ego in constant evolution.
