«My Shadow has always accompanied my Light.
You can try to have a world, a world without the Shadow, but it will be a dark, dark and hopeless world, because it would be a world without Light too.
The light of nature, the light of the truth, the light of silence. The brighter it shines from my body, the more evil hides in its hole. The dark enjoy so hard to defeat me, so my mind is starting to lose control.
And when the night comes, the Shadow has the power to hold all my Light and I feel immortal, embracing my fears. Through darkness, I've seen truth and I've heard lies, I’ve made Promises to my profound and disturbing Self. I’ve seen happiness, I've seen anger. This is my heart. These are my beautiful Monsters».
Le Promesse dei Mostri (2020) is an ongoing project which investigates "The Monstrous Feminine": the wild nature of femininity, showing the primordial fear that patriarchy has always had towards women. It's a journey to discover the dark power of women, claiming horror as a creative force, capable of breaking the millennial chains of patriarchal oppression.
The manifestation of the dark archetypal women representation become a distorted and disturbing vision, which leads to tearing apart and turning over the cultural male gaze, investigating restlessness, anger, worthiness, sensuality, power and control.
Le Promesse dei Mostri is a human and feminist quest which explore the darkness that awakens from the historical until to the contemporary iconography of the woman, redefining a new sense of beauty in the representation of their massive dark essence.
The Monsters become metaphorical nightmares about identity, vanity, fierceness, exorcism of the fears and human desires, a crescendo of experiences that fascinates and paralyses, like Medusa's gaze.
The Promises made to Monsters are promises of self-determination, strength and bravery: to celebrate Shadows, to conquer the Light.
